BirdLife International presents a copy of “The Killing Report” to Syrian Minister of Environment

BirdLife International did a comprehensive report on the illegal killing of birds (IKB) in the Mediterranean. The Minster of Environment in Syria received a copy of the report in a meeting with the representative of BirdLife International Middle East Secretariat. The Minister highlighted that Syria is a signatory of a number of international conventions and agreement including CMS and sub-related agreements like the Raptors MoU and AEWA.
The Minister stressed the importance of international joint collaborations and actions to conserve biodiversity in the globe. In Syria, the Minister highlighted the on-going efforts to update and enact a new Hunting Law that is now being studied by the government and interested NGO’s.
These efforts for a new hunting law in Syria is being led through a collaborative committee headed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform (MAAR) along with a number of related ministries and the Syrian Society for the Conservation of Wildlife; BirdLife partner in Syria.
